THE PROGRESS CAPACITY BUILDING HUB SUPPORTS SMALL NONPROFITS AND GRASSROOTS MOVEMENTS TO THRIVE.

We know that to make significant change on issues that strike at the heart of our communities, we need grassroots movements and small nonprofits led by people with lived experience. Our history shows that when communities come together, organise, and speak out, there can be transformational change. But these movements and organisations are often operating with very few resources and have limited access to the support that can turbo-charge their success.

That’s why, in 2020, we established the Capacity Building Hub, focused on helping grassroots organisation survive through the pandemic and lay the foundations for their continued sustainability and impact.

WHAT IS THE CAPACITY BUILDING HUB?

The Capacity Building Hub is a time limited program designed to provide much needed support and training specifically for small, grassroots organisations working for progressive change in issues such as First Nations justice, intergenerational equality, disability justice, racial justice, climate, gender equality and more.

The Hub offers tailored capacity building to grassroots movements and small nonprofits, particularly those led by people with lived experience of the issues on which they campaign.

Organisations participating in the Capacity Building Hub will have access to training, support and resources that help build their organisational resilience and their advocacy impact.

WHAT WILL THE 2024 CAPACITY BUILDING HUB OFFER?

The Capacity Building Hub will support small but high-impact nonprofits and grassroots movements, including:

  • 30 priority organisations who’ll receive intensive support through access to scholarships and discounted tickets to Australian Progress training and events, 1:1 coaching sessions, a peer network, and other tailored support to increase organisational resilience and advocacy impact.

  • A much broader network of 300 nonprofits and community movement organisations who’ll be invited to access skills and knowledge webinars and organisational resources designed to strengthen organisational resilience and impact.

GETTING INVOLVED

Right now, we’re seeking applications from organisations interested in receiving support as a priority organisation.

Organisations eligible to join this cohort must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a national focus and potential for national impact,

  • Operate with an annual budget under $1.5M,

  • Have a people-powered theory of change,

  • Be led by people with lived experience of the issues the organisation or movement works on, and

  • Be willing to support staff or lead volunteers to participate in online training and coaching sessions and webinars as appropriate to your needs.
