Bess Murphy
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR, CAIRNS AND FAR NORTH ENVIRONMENT CENTRE
Bess Murphy is the Community Engagement Coordinator at the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) way up the top end of Australia. She’s been working on different environmental campaigns in a mix of voluntary and paid roles since I was 16. Bess hails from country NSW and is formerly trained as an environmental scientist/biologist with honours on mangrove and saltmarsh ecosystems. She’s been in her current role at CAFNEC since May last year and is really excited to get some formal community organising skills under her belt. Bess is also really looking forward to connecting with like minded folk who are hungry for change. When she’s not at CAFNEC you can find her working on a sustainable timber venture she and her partner started, under the sea, or hiking in the rainforest nerding-out on botany.
